Since embarking in business on his own account in Utica in 1902, John H. Hauser has developed an extensive and profitable enterprise as a painting and decorating contractor and also as a dealer in wall paper, paints and varnishes. Utica numbers him among her native sons, for it was here that he was born on the 28th of September, 1872, his parents being Henry and Mary Hauser of this city. He attended the public schools of Utica to the age of eleven years, when he put aside his textbooks to provide for his own support. Eventually he learned the painter's trade, which he followed in the employ of others until 1902, when as a young man of thirty years he established himself in business as a painting contractor on a small scale. His activities have gradually expanded in scope until at the present time he is conducting an enterprise of large proportions as a general contractor in the field of painting and decorating. He has also built up a gratifying patronage as a dealer in wall paper, paints and varnishes and is widely recognized as one of the enterprising, successful and thoroughly reliable business men of Utica.

On the 23d of April, 1902, Mr. Hauser was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Allwein Panke, a native of Germany. They are the parents of a daughter, Helen Ann, who was born in Utica on March 18, 1904. Politically Mr. Hauser maintains an independent attitude, supporting men and measures rather than party. He is a member of the Utica Maennerchor and also of Zion church, belonging to its Young Men's Society, and he has membership in St. Regis Tribe of Red Men. Mr. Hauser has been a lifelong resident of Utica and his career has ever been such as to command the confidence, esteem and good will of all with whom he has come into contact.
