The McCreedys of Ballston Spa, New York, are of Scotch descent on both paternal and maternal lines. Their ancestor, John McCreedy, settled in Plattsburg, New York, later removing to Saratoga county, settling in the village of Schuylerville, where he died. He married and had a son.
(II) Charles, son of John McCreedy, was born in Schuylerville, Saratoga county, New York, where he lived until 1865. He then purchased a farm in Malta, same county, which he cultivated until his death. For, many years he was superintendent of the Victory Mills at Schuylerville. He married Sarah J. Collamer, born 1820, died January, 1911, a descendant of Warren Collamer, of Connecticut, also of Scotch descent. The Collamers were early settlers of Malta.
(III) Charles O., son of Charles and Sarah J. (Collamer) McCreedy, was born in Schuylerville, Saratoga county, New York, where he received his early education. He finished his studies at. Gilmore's Academy, Ballston Spa, New York. In 1865 he settled in Ballston where for three years he was clerk in the post office. In 1868 he established a drug store in the village which he conducted successfully until 1885, when he was appointed postmaster by President Cleveland. He continued in that office until 1901 when he was appointed by Governor David B. Hill as secretary of the New York state forestry commission. He died January 29, 1909, full of years and honor. He was an active Democrat, and a member of Christ Episcopal Church. He married, October 11, 1871, Caroline F., daughter of George Gordon Scott, and great-granddaughter of George Scott, one of the early pioneers of Ballston, who settled on a farm on the "Middle Line Road" which became the family homestead and was held in the family name for over a century. George Scott married a sister of General James Gordon, a distinguished militia officer of the. revolution. George Gordon Scott was born on the old Middle Line homestead in 1811. He married Lucy, daughter of Joel Lee, one of the very earliest settlers. of Ballston Spa. Children of Charles O. and Caroline F. McCreedy:

(IV) Gordon Scott, eldest child of Charles O. and Caroline F. (Scott) McCreedy, was born in Ballston Spa, New York, October 5, 1872. His early education was obtained in the public schools of the village, supplemented by a full course at Riverview Military Academy, Poughkeepsie, New York. He entered active business life at once after completing his studies. Untill 1900 he was engaged in the retail coal business in Ballston Spa, and in that year removed to New York City, where he was engaged in the real estate business until 1906, in which year he returned to Ballston Spa where he has since been engaged in real estate and insurance. He is an energetic, successful man of business and stands high in his community. He is a member of the Episcopal church, and belongs to the Utopian Club of Ballston Spa. In politics he is a Democrat. He married, April 17, 1900, Harriet Newell, born 1871, daughter of James and Julia A. (Newell) Sherwood, of Greenfield, Saratoga county. Children:
