John Haswell, immigrant ancestor, was born in England. He left the town of Appleby, county Westmoreland, England, prior to the revolution, and settled first in Albany, and later at Watervliet, New York. His son, Joseph Haswell, born December 3, 1755, died April 14, 1812, was a soldier in the revolution from New York. John Haswell, the immigrant, died September 22, 1808. He married (first) Mary Miller; (second) Mary Halliday, born July 17, 1740, died December 12, 1824. Children of first wife: John, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, Robert, Arthur. Children of second wife: Thomas, Margaret. Isaac, Richard, Hannah, Edward, John, William.
(II) Thomas, son of John Haswell, was born February 1, 1764, died May 31, 1802. He lived first in Albany, but later on the road from Watervliet to Cohoes, New York. He married Elizabeth Mark. Children: Isaac, Mary, Sarah, Thomas, George, Margaret.
(III) George, son of Thomas Haswell, was born at Bethlehem, Albany county, New York, October 19, 1799, died in Watervliet, July 11, 1856. He lived at Watervliet, and was a farmer. He married Hannah E. Haswell, born May 19, 1816, a cousin. Children: Isaac M., see forward; William, Sarah Elizabeth.
(IV) Isaac Mark, son of George Haswell, was born at Watervliet, November 14, 1841, died at Colonie, formerly the town of Watervliet, July 31, 1906. He attended the public schools and the Union Classical Institute of Schenectady, New York. He was a farmer all his active life. In politics he was a Republican and always active in political matters. He was penitentiary commissioner of Albany county several years; town auditor, twenty years; treasurer for a long time and trustee of the incorporated village. He married, November 27, 1862, at Pittstown, Rensselaer county, New York, Hannah Victoria, born at Pittstown, New York, daughter of Levi and Harriet (Downing) Sherman, granddaughter of John Sherman, of the Rhode Island branch of the New England Shermans. Harriet Downing was born at Pittstown, March 7, 1800, died there February, 1871, daughter of Captain Abijah K. Downing, who was a captain in the American army in the war of 1812. Children of Isaac M. and Hannah V. (Sherman) Haswell:

- E. Lillian, married Hugh H. Lansing; children: Florence, James, Helen Victoria.
(V) Dr. George Sherman Haswell, son of Isaac Mark Haswell, was born at Watervliet, New York, June 2, 1868. He attended the public schools of Troy and graduated from the Troy high school, class of 1889. He graduated in 1892 with the degree of M.D. at the Albany Medical School. He took a postgraduate course at the New York Polyclinic School, in 1893. Then he located in Watervliet and has practiced in that city to the present time with abundant success. Besides his profession he has extensive business interests. In politics he is a Republican. He was coroner of Albany county for two terms of three years each, and held other offices of trust and honor. He attends the First Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church of Watervliet. He is a member of Evening Star Lodge, No. 75, Free and Accepted Masons, and is a past master; Hudson River Chapter, No. 262, Royal Arch Masons; Bloss Council, No. 14, Royal and Select Masters; Apollo Commandery, No. 13, Knights Templar; Oriental Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., of Troy, and has taken the thirty-second degree in Scottish Rite Masonry; also member of the Knights of Malta; the Maccabees; the Medical Society of Troy and the Medical Society of Northern New York. He married, April 27, 1894, at Watervliet, Alice, born at Watervliet, April 6, 1873, daughter of Edward H. and Hattie (Lobdell) Wiswall. Children:
