The father of Alvah Clum, of Troy, was Aaron Clum, a farmer of Brunswick, New York. Children: Isaac, Aaron, Melville, Sanford, Jacob and Alvah.
(II) Alvah, youngest child of Aaron Clum, was born in Brunswick, New York, 1841, died in Troy, New York, 1888. He was educated in the public schools, and worked on the farm until he was past twenty-one. He then located in Troy where he conducted a grocery store. He succeeded in his undertaking, and in a few years removed to more commodious quarters on Ingalls avenue, corner of Sixth street, where he continued until his death. He was a devoted member of the Presbyterian church and served for many years as elder, and in the Sunday school he was for several years superintendent. He was an open-hearted man, charitable in all things, upright in character and highly respected in the city. Politically he was a Republican, but never took an active part. His greatest pleasure was in his home. He married, in 1877, Annie Creevey, widow of William R. Lester. She was born November 15, 1845, daughter of Lawrence and Eliza Creevey, of New York City. Mr. and Mrs. Clum had no children. An inmate of her home is Jessie Clum, daughter of Ira and Susan (Francisco) Clum.
