Mrs. Lewis E. Gurley (A. Louise Brown) is a descendant of Paaley Brown, who was a soldier of the revolution and fought at Bunker Hill, where he was wounded. He married and had issue.
(II) Nathaniel, son of Paaley Brown, was born November 5, 1767, died October 1, 1854, and was buried at White's Corners, Madison county, New York. He married Annie Perry, born April 16, 1770, died 1826, cousin of Commodore Oliver H. Perry.
(III) Rev. Philip Perry Brown, son of Nathaniel and Annie (Perry) Brown, was born in Bennington, Vermont, September 17, 1790, died at Hamilton, New York. His parents removed from Bennington to Hamilton when he was an infant. He grew up and was educated in the latter town. He married Betsey Dickey, born in Londonderry, New Hampshire.
(IV) Rev. William Brown, son of Rev. Philip Perry and Betsey (Dickey) Brown, was born January 16, 1816, died August 8, 1869. He married, at Newport, Herkimer county, New York, Louise Elizabeth Wright, born in Westford, Otsego county, New York. Children:

- Ella, married William Woodforth, of California.
(V) A. Louise, daughter of Rev. William and Louise Elizabeth (Wright) Brown, married, 1878, Lewis A. Gurley. She survives her husband, a resident of Troy, New York. She is a prominent worker in the Missionary field; has traveled extensively in all parts of the world, and is well known as a public speaker and lecturer.
