There were two early settlers of Beverwyck of this name; Willem, whose descendants settled below Albany, in Columbia County and elsewhere, and Cornelis Antonissen, alias "Broer Cornelis," so called by the natives. The latter is said to have married a Mohawk woman by whom he had several children: Jacques; Marten Mouris; Hilletie and perhaps Lea. Marten was in Beverwyck in 1661; gave name to the island (now Van Slyck's) lying in the Mohawk, west of Schenectady, and d. probably early in 1662; Hilletie, m. Pieter Danielse Van Olinda, and was often employed as the provincial interpreter for the Five Nations; Lea, m. first, Claas Willemse Van Coppernol, and secondly, Jonathan Stevens.
