The names of all sons who subsequently became heads of families (so far as the compiler could find), are printed in italics: the husbands of daughters and the parents of both husbands and wives are in all cases mentioned when discoverable."

Bratt (Brat, Bradt)
Two brothers of this name, Albert Andriese and Arent Andriese, were among the early settlers of Albany. They often went by the name of De Noorman. The former remained in Albany, and is the ancestor of most of the name in that county; the latter became one of the first proprietors of Schenectady in 1662, about which time he died, leaving a widow and six children. His wife was Catalyntje, dau. of Andries De Vos, Deputy Director of Rensselaerswyk. After the death of her husband, the grants of land allotted to him, were confirmed to her. Her home lot in the village, was the west quarter of the block bounded by Washington, Union, Church and State Streets, being about 200 ft. sq., Amsterdam measure. On this lot her grandson, Arent A. Bratt, brewer, built the ancient Dutch house, now standing on the north side of State, near Washington Street. On the 12th of Nov. 1664, being about to marry her second husband, Barent Janse Van Ditmars, she contracted with the guardians of her children, to set off for them from her estate, 1,000 guilders, and mortgaged her bouwery, No. 1, on the bouwland to secure this sum to them. He was killed in the massacre of 1690. In 1691, she married Claas Janse Van Boekhoven, whom she also outlived. She died in 1712.
