Christopher Fliegel was born in Baden-Baden, Germany. He emigrated to America with his family and settled in Gloversville, New York. Children:

  1. Philip, of whom further.
  2. Catherine, married Edward Krause; children: Oscar, Charles, Lucius and Lewis; twins.
  3. Sophia, married John Sperber; children:
    1. Rose, married Charles Knopf;
    2. J. Fred, married Ella Aucock;
    3. Catherine;
    4. Lewis P., married Annie Sprung;
    5. Ida, married Charles Griffis; child, Harold.
  4. Rosina, married Lewis Knopf, child, Lewis, married ———— Schmidt.

(II) Philip, son of Christopher Fliegel, was born in Baden-Baden, Germany, in 1826, died in Gloversville, New York, 1879. He was a man devoted to his family and his work. He married Magdalen Edel, born 1836, died 1905, in Gloversville, New York. Children:

  1. Philip J., of whom further;
  2. Charles F., born 1859;
  3. Mary, 1861; married Jay Karker;
  4. William L., 1863; married Delia Gifford;
  5. Emma, 1866, died in childhood.

(III) Philip J., son of Philip and Magdalen (Edel) Fliegel, was born in Gloversville, in 1857. He was educated in the public school and was graduated from Gloversville high school in 1872. He commenced to learn the glove business with James Parker and was later with G. W. Hildreth, where he remained for seven years. Subsequently he was with Booth & Company in the leather business as general superintendent. In 1897 he was appointed assistant postmaster at Gloversville and has held the position ever since (1910). He is interested in town affairs, and is a member of the board of health. He belongs to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows; is a Republican in politics, and a member of the Congregational church, of which he is a trustee. He married, July 3, 1879, Mary E. Sandner, daughter of Fred and Mary (Breckley) Sandner, who had eight children:

  1. Fred;
  2. Louisa, married J. J. Bellis;
  3. Mary E.;
  4. Charles, married Annie Lewis, one child, Berdell;
  5. Elizabeth, married George R. Hutchinson, one child, Georgianna;
  6. William, children: Frank, and Edith;
  7. Henry, married Libby Politsch;
  8. David, married Loie Heath, one child, Gertrude.

Children of Philip J. and Mary E. (Sandner) Fliegel:

  1. Frederick P., born May 6, 1883, died April 23, 1885;
  2. William Garnsey, March 9, 1886, married, June 19, 1908, Florence Palmer; one child;
    1. Marie, born May 21, 1910.
