Vale Cemetery Records, Volume One, Part 4 of 4
(Schenectady, New York)

[This information is from Vale Cemetery Records, Volume One, compiled in 1926 by Charlotte Luckhurst for the Schenectada Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. We are most grateful to Kathy Shouse for transcribing it from microfilm.]

[N.B.: The names are not alphabetical and you will need to use your browser's Find command to locate specific families. This set of records has been split into four parts to speed loading time.]

[Transcriber's note: Spelling variations, invalid dates etc., hard to read strikeovers transcribed as written.]

In order to make the records for the genealogical research in the vicinity of Schenectady, N. Y. more complete, we have decided to add to our rather extensive collection, the records of the Vale Cemetery.

This is the large protestant cemetery where thousands are buried. It was opened in 1870 and removals made from the Front Street burial ground, and reinterred here.

Since then many of the farm burial plots and other rural cemeteries have been abandoned and bodies removed to Vale, and of these removals no record has been kept in the office, and the only record preserved appears on the stones.

Many of them are very old, and brought here with the bodies. The various sections of the cemetery are lettered and inscriptions are taken from each section separately with index of alphabetically arranged so a grave can be easily located.

All vital records are taken from every stone; the work will require several years to complete.
